Upcoming webinar – Assisted Dying Bill

On Tuesday 22nd April 2025 at 5:00pm Barbara Rich, Ruth Hughes KCWilliam East and Toby Bishop will be hosting a webinar on the Assisted Dying Bill.

The Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill returns to the House of Commons for its Third Reading in late April 2025.

Our members have been active contributors to and commentators on its provisions and progress. Ruth Hughes KC filed written evidence about safeguards against coercion and abuse which was referred to with approval by two MPs (Naz Shah MP and Rebecca Paul MP) in the course of the Bill’s committee hearings, and Barbara Rich appeared on Radio 4’s Today programme to discuss judicial oversight of assisted dying and the alternative proposal for a voluntary assisted dying panel with former DPP Max Hill KC. Toby Bishop and William East have advised on and acted in cases seeking relief from forfeiture of interests in the estates of individuals who have chosen assisted deaths abroad.

In this webinar we will discuss the provisions of the Bill as it returns to the House of Commons, informed by our professional practices and interests in issues of mental capacity and freedom of decision making in later life.
