Sarah Haren KC successful in defending proprietary estoppel claim and trespass claim: Grijns v Grijns [2025] EWHC 1413 (Ch)

Judgment has been handed down for the Defendants in this proprietary estoppel claim relating to a four-bedroom house in Chelsea.  The claimant had lived in the property, owned by his mother, for over 20 years. He asserted an entitlement to the property based on alleged promises made to him as to his prospective inheritance and his alleged detrimental reliance on those promises. He also made a claim in trespass relating to an attempt to enter the property while he was in occupation. Following an 8 day trial before Master Bowles (sitting in retirement) the claim was dismissed in its entirety and the counterclaim for damages upheld.  Sarah Haren KC acted for the successful defendants, instructed by Withers LLP.  A link to the judgment is here.
