Make an application for pupillage

We recruit through the Pupillage Gateway.  This is a centralised online application scheme promoted by our professional body, the Bar Council.

Applications must be made to us via the Pupillage Gateway.

Applications for pupillage in the 2024 round of recruitment are now closed. In 2024, the submissions window for applications on the Pupillage Gateway opened on 3 January 2024 and closed on 7 February 2024.

Our normal process for recruiting pupils is as follows:

• Following applications closing, there is a paper sift of the applications received.
• Applicants who are successful on the paper sift are invited for a competency-based interview which is conducted by two members of chambers. This normally takes place in March. Before attending interview, applicants are required to provide a written answer to a legal problem question, which they may be asked about at interview.
• Applicants who are successful at first round interview are invited to attend an assessment day in chambers in April, with an interview taking place with a larger panel of members of chambers. The interview includes assessment of the candidates’ answers to a legal problem which is looked at by the candidates on the assessment day.
• The assessment day is an opportunity to meet members of chambers and staff and find out more about our work, culture and the opportunities we offer. There will be an informal lunch with some of our junior members.
• Offer(s) of pupillage are then made in accordance with the Pupillage Gateway timetable.
