19 August 2011 - High Court grants injunction against sale of Savernake Estate assets

Mr Justice Floyd has granted an injunction against the sale of valuable chattels held on the Savernake Estate, one of the oldest landed estates in the UK. The trustees of the estate sought to prevent the sale by Lord Cardigan. The trustees allege that the chattels are owned by the Savernake Estate trust and that Lord Cardigan therefore cannot sell them. In addition to the injunction, Lord Cardigan was ordered to pay the trustees’ costs (estimated at £30,000) with a payment on account of £10,000. Thomas Entwistle successfully appeared for the trustees.

The decision by Mr Justice Floyd follows a Court of Appeal hearing involving the trustees and Lord Cardigan earlier this year, at which Penelope Reed QC appeared. You can find our news item on that hearing here.
